Writing Challenge Art Challenge

About the Challenge

Baobabooks is launching its first annual Earth Day Challenge. We are partnering with a variety of companies, organizations and schools to inspire young artists and writers to engage in this year’s Earth Day theme ‘Invest in our Planet’. Certificates will be awarded to all participants and their stories and artwork will be published on the Baobabooks’ platform. Winners will have their stories featured on our blog and a selection of our sponsors’ websites.

Challenge Timeline

  • Entries must be submitted before 12 a.m. (CET) on June 3, 2022.
  • The winners will be announced no later than June 12, 2022 and stories will be featured on the Baobabooks’ community library platform shortly afterwards.
  • All participants will receive a downloadable certificate of participation.

Guidelines for the Writing Challenge

  • Use one of the Writing Challenge prompts  to inspire your writing.
  • Any student age 6 and over is welcome to join Baobabooks Earth Day Challenge.
  • Limit your writing to 500 words. You may choose to include images.
  • Each participant can submit a maximum of one writing entry and is also encouraged to submit an art entry.
  • The story should be original and one that has not previously been published for a competition. Any story that is fully or partially copied from any other source will not be accepted.
Judging & Prizes

Guidelines for the Art Challenge

  • Use one of the Art Challenge prompts to create your artwork.
  • Any student age 6 and over is welcome to join Baobabooks Earth Day Challenge.
  • Create your artwork digitally or by hand.
  • Use our tips to help you scan or take a photo of your artwork in order to upload it. Make sure your scan or photo are in .jpeg or .pdf file format.
  • Each participant can submit a maximum of one art entry and is also encouraged to submit a writing entry.
  • Artwork should be original and made specifically for Baobabooks’ Earth Day Challenge 2022.

Guidelines for Documenting Your Artwork

Here are some simple tips for uploading high quality artwork to the Baobabooks' platform.

We need to see a good quality scan or photo of your artwork in order to judge it properly! You can either scan your artwork or take a photo of it. Acceptable formats for uploading your artwork are .pdf and .jpeg.

Tip: If you need help ask a parent or teacher.

Make sure that all of your artwork can be seen clearly and that it is well lit when taking a photo of it. Take a photo outside on a sunny day, or in a well-lit room.

Tip: Use some desk lamps to help you if it is a cloudy day or the room is dark!

The photo must be in focus so that it is possible to see every little detail. So remember to carefully focus the camera on your artwork before taking your photo.

Tip: You can always use a support to keep your camera steady!
